Digital tools for film research

Abstract:

The subject of this video article is dedicated to digital tools designed for image research. In the information society age, we are faced with an exponential growth of producers of digital images: photos, films, 3D animations or other types of graphics. The fundamental problem here concerns the analysis of large sets of data commonly known as Big Data. Old methods designed to study the textual world prove to be completely unsuitable (in the case of films or graphics). Using the example of the film analysis of Star Wars and the film adaptation of Henryk Sienkiewicz’s Trilogy, the author presents a new methodology and digital tools designed to study digital images. Tools for studying the world of images, especially large-scale collections, are creating and propagating a new scientific movement called the digital humanities.
